1. Young girl within horseshoe, probably Frances Brundage design. Heart-shaped floral border topped with cherubs. Die-cut chromolithography, easel-back, 5.5x6.5 circa 1910. (20)

2. Delicate lace paper border, perhaps French origin; rice paper (slight damage) with silk-embroidered flowers, painted bird and Christmas wish. 3x4.5. See Laver, Victoriana, Pyne Press, Princeton, 1975, page 136, for similar piece and usage as Victorian Valentine. (100)

3. Partial sheet of early printed mottoes to be cut out, 5x12, circa 1810 (75)

4. Silver lace front removed and applied to create a newer Valentine; features central image of a woman, surrounded by border of green feathers. Inside, applied oval of flowers, bordered by silver lace. Charming example of the Victorian re-use of cards. 5x8. (40)

5. A Pretty Birds Nest, closed, opens to 13.5x5, and reveals a couple amid a divorce. Satirical comic, Signed SM&S, London (? Marks). (60)

6. The Sweet Wedding Belle, closed shows cherubs ringing a bell, opens to 13.5x5, and reveals a less-than-beautiful Belle awaiting marriage. Satirical comic, Signed SM&S, London (? Marks). (60)

7. Comic image titled, “An Old Bear”, wearing a coat and striped pants, color printed on thin paper, small tear at bottom.,6.5x9.5 (30)

8. Colorful die-cut Scottie, 4x4.5, (plus four cards with little pups) Total of five children’s cards featuring puppies, (10).

9. Pencil sketch of a dog by CW Upham, meant as a Token of Love, and dedicated on reverse, to Miss Ward, Feb.20, 1843 (75)

10. Vinegar Verse, paperback Comic Valentine book by Dorothy Jerse, (10)

11. English Valentine printed to appear as an invoice, the amount due: Kisses 1000. See Laver, Victoriana, page 141, for similar piece. 5x8. (40)

13. Lovely folder with die-cut Morning glories, central image of 18th century couple, simulates a black and white etching. (20)

14. Mansell octavo, gilded laces, multiple layers, accordion hinged, with clasped hands shown in center. (40).

15. Die-cut border, red heart transforms to woman by pulling on a cord. Interesting mechanism. 5x6.5 (35)

16. McLoughlin style, crisp and beautiful layers with silvered lace center, and scrap of man with letter, “Souvenir”, 5.5x8. (35)

17. Early card with red strike envelope Vermont, was Lot 19 Auction 2009-1 (90)

18. Biedermeier-era letter sheet, printed in sepia, image of woman with banner in German, which translates “Out of Childish Love”, 9x11. (35)

19. Silk bookmark with Berlin-work motto card: embroidered harp and “There is Music in Heaven” 3x12 (40)

20. Lace quarto, see auction 2009-1, lot 8, Nash watermark, circa 1840, charming. (50)
